Work Packages (WPs)

CIRCUBATT is structured into six key work packages, each targeting critical aspects of the project.

WP1

Developing Innovative Business Models for Secondary Batteries

This work package focuses on ensuring that the secondary use of retired batteries delivers both economic and environmental benefits through models like Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS). It co-creates revenue strategies and a social life cycle assessment framework to facilitate the closed-loop reuse of battery technologies.

WP2

Battery Eco-Design and Digital Battery Transport

WP2 integrates advanced AI and data analytics to optimize battery design for circularity, focusing on ease of dismantling and high-value recycling. The team is also developing a Digital Battery Passport to ensure full transparency and traceability of materials throughout the entire lifecycle.

WP3

Second-life Performance and Safety Validation

This package establishes rigorous testing protocols and AI-driven health monitoring to validate the safety and efficiency of batteries in second-life applications. By predicting aging patterns, the project ensures that repurposed batteries meet the high standards required for stationary energy storage.

WP4

Advanced Recycling and Raw Material Recovery

WP4 develops innovative processes to recover high-purity critical raw materials from end-of-life batteries, reducing Europe’s dependency on external supplies. The focus is on maximizing recycling efficiency while minimizing the environmental footprint of the recovery process itself.

WP5

Communication, Dissemination, and Exploitation

This work package manages the project’s external visibility, ensuring that breakthrough results reach policymakers, industry leaders, and the public. It also focuses on exploitation strategies to ensure that CIRCUBATT’s innovations are successfully adopted by the market.

WP6

Project Management and Coordination

WP6 provides the overarching administrative, financial, and technical coordination required to ensure seamless progress across the entire project consortium. It is responsible for risk management, data protection compliance, and maintaining the strategic direction of the project toward its circular economy goals.
