Battery sustainability in Europe: take the CIRCUBATT survey

Battery sustainability in Europe is becoming one of the most urgent challenges of the green transition. The rapid growth of electric vehicles (EVs) means that more and more batteries will reach the end of their life in the coming years. Managing these batteries responsibly is not only essential for the environment but also for Europe’s economy and social well-being.

The CIRCUBATT project (Circular Economy Innovations for Resilient, Competitive and Sustainable Battery Technologies), funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe programme, is working on innovative solutions to make the entire battery lifecycle — from design and manufacturing to reuse and recycling — smarter, greener, and more circular.

Why battery sustainability in Europe needs your input

CIRCUBATT is developing a Social Life Cycle Assessment (s-LCA) framework as part of Work Package 1: Business Models. This framework will measure the social impacts and risks of new business models for end-of-life EV batteries within the European value chain.

To ensure that the framework reflects real-world challenges, the project team is inviting experts from the battery industry, energy sector, academia, and policy to complete a short 5–7 minute survey.

By participating, you will:

  • Highlight the most important social risks and opportunities in recycling and reusing EV batteries.

  • Support the creation of Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) models that combine technical innovation with social responsibility.

  • Contribute evidence that will shape EU policy recommendations on battery sustainability.

Take the survey today

Your insights can directly influence how Europe handles its growing number of end-of-life EV batteries. Together, we can make the battery value chain more circular, fair, and sustainable.
